August 9, 2010 – House & Bad CC Help

First, apologies that the site was down for a couple of days. I didn’t get my notice that it was time to renew my hosting. I hate it when that happens.

Second, I would like to address the lack of updates. Not to long ago I uninstalled everything and reinstalled it hoping to get rid of some bad meshes that made my baby, toddler and kid sims look like mutants (see Twinbrook Birth Defects Blamed on Tiberium for one of the screenshots of what I am talking about). Somewhere along the line, after doing that and having a clean game I managed to pick up the same mesh, along with a few others, that gave me back the mutant children. I didn’t feel like doing the uninstall/reinstall thing so I spent a number of days tracking down the bad meshes with little luck. While doing a search to find out if anyone else was having these problems and if they could tell me what mesh(es) was/were the issue, I came across THIS WEBSITE. If you do not have Crinrict’s Sims 3 Hilfe Blog bookmarked, DO IT! I mean it. Crinrict has gone through a ton of trouble to identify bad meshes and has listed the package file name (ie: 0×53c8a792708a8503c3af11001586b1b0.package) where you can use your search function to find the offending files and delete them. Talk about a sanity saver. The blog is in German, but you really don’t know need to read or understand German to navigate through the posts on bad cc. Before I forget, through all of this I learned that you need to delete the files from your DCBackup and DCCache folders as well or they come back to haunt you.

Now that all that has been said, I have a house for download. It’s available on The Exchange. I uploaded it while the site was down late last night.

The house is situated on a 40X40 lot. 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, laundry room, 2 fireplaces (one in the living room, one in the family room), 2 car garage and arched bridge over the lake in the front yard. This time around I didn’t bother doing much decorating inside because, if everyone is like me, they end up changing the decor.

August 2, 2010 – Tattoo Studio

This tattoo shop is inspired by the tattoo studio that I use. Yes, the studio that I use has a skeleton in the corner…or at least they did until they remodeled. I guess the skeleton of Elvis holding a blow up pink flamingo didn’t fit in with the new look. There is some custom content in the way of decorations and I can’t remember where it all came from. I do know that the free standing books came from the free section at TSR.

August 2, 2010 – Faux Loft

It’s not really a loft, but might pass as one if someone doesn’t know what a loft is. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a huge one car garage. This is another one of those houses that was supposed to be a starter home but the floor plans that I worked from didn’t create a house under $20,000. I actually think that with Sims 3 a starter home is under $16,000. Oh well. Some sim somewhere is sure to love it. 20X20 lot. $22,585. This pattern set includes 18 somewhat coordinated patterns. Because the set is so large I did thumbnail images of them this time around. To download individual patterns, click on the individual pattern. If this works out well for people I will continue to do it this way. August 1, 2010 – House

Today I bring you what was supposed to be a starter home but when I was done with it, the cost turned out to be $27,141. The actual floor plans that I tried to use didn’t convert well to Sims 3 thanks to our game limitations so I had to modify it. The house went from being a one bedroom home to a two bedroom home with closets so there is an upside…maybe ;0). The wallpapers used in the house are my own designs. You can also see the house on The Exchange here with it’s slide show.

The Move

Trevor and Willow had finally settled to their new life in Twinbrook. Trevor as getting along well at the hospital and was promoted up from bad pan cleaner. Willow was getting started on her first novel and had quite the garden growing that she had spent many long hours cultivating. Willow was still collecting rocks to sell in order to improve their house, the problem was, she wasn’t much of an interior designer. All Trevor had to say about the decor was, “It could be worse. I also spend most of my time at the hospital so I don’t have to look at it that much.”

That’s when it happened. The Twinbrook Damn broke flooding most of the city. Investigation into the break revealed that the city had done no upkeep on the damn in the thirty some years since it had been built. When questioned about the over site, Twinbrook Mayor, Dallas Adams, said, “Erosion? What is erosion?” His statement took the focus off the damn break and city council members promptly started looking into the school system.

“We can’t let kids go through their life not knowing what erosion is. It’s that kind of poor education that is to blame for this damn break. We have to prevent this from happening in the future.” Deputy Mayor Selma Myles stated.

With the focus of the damn break moving to the school system and the actual problem being ignored, this left many people homeless including Trevor and Willow. One homeowners insurance policy pay off later, they moved into New City.

“We considered staying. We would have stayed if Mayor Adams had addressed the issue, declared an emergency and showed some effort to fix the problem. That isn’t what happened.” Trevor explained. “We were actually quite happy in Twinbrook and it was the perfect place for Willow to write. It didn’t look like much, but Twinbrook really was a mecca for the artistic.”

“New City is okay…I guess. It’s quite here.” Willow commented. “The cost of living is much higher here and what we got from the insurance policy we were able to purchase a brand new one bedroom home. Where it’s nice not to have to fix it up, it’s really kind of awkward sharing a bedroom with Trevor.”

Awkward indeed. So awkward in fact that Willow has started bathing with her clothes on.

Trevor: We live across from the stadium. It’s considered the slums of the city since all the houses are small and relatively inexpensive. I have to say that I have never seen slums this nice. Granted, we don’t live in the heart of the city where everything is happening and the house are huge. The upside is we don’t have to hire four maids to keep the house clean.

Willow: This really isn’t a city for those just starting out, especially the struggling artist types. I am really annoyed about the garden. That was our main source of food. We barely have the money to keep the bills paid. We will figure it out though. The sunrise over the lake behind our house is totally worth it all.

No Ladybugs

If there is one thing that sims enjoy doing these days, it’s staging protests at City Hall. Sims will protest just about anything, even if they do it alone. Take for example Armando Drew of New City and his one man protest against ladybugs. Yes…ladybugs.

Most people are happy to have ladybugs around. They are friendliest looking bug in the insect world and they are known for eating the one bug that is a threat to rose gardens everywhere, aphids. Armando explained his position to us.

“My yard is over run by hundreds of them and each year it gets worse. You know, a single ladybug lays up to 50 eggs. I figure by next year it’s going to be so bad I won’t be able to walk out my door without being swarmed by them. The other problem is, everyone knows this and when they want to catch ladybugs they come to my yard. Every week I have a number of kids and adults, who I don’t know, trespassing on my property catching the bugs. It’s out of control and it’s time the city does something about it. I would prefer that they spray for the darned things and kill every ladybug in New City where I never have to see another one. Originally I wrote a letter to City Hall about the problem. They responded by saying they were forming a committee to explore turning my yard into a protected ladybug habitat. I can’t live like this!”

Moving is also out of the question for Mr. Drew. When presented with that option he said, “I like my house.” So, the ladybug protest continued.

Several hours later Kendrick McLean joined him. “I just happened to be passing by and I can’t resist joining a protest.”

How does Kendrick feel about the ladybugs? “I have coccinellidaephobia…so, yea, I support Armando. It’s just a matter of time before the little bastards take over the entire city, then it’s going to be like Night of the Triffids, only with ladybugs.”

Members of the New City Government were unavailable for comment.

July 26, 2010 – 3 Houses

I am working on moving people into New City and realized that I didn’t have any starter homes. I quickly threw together three of them, although I am questioning if two of them are truly starter homes even though they cost less than $20,000. Anyway, I am feeling somewhat lazy at the moment so I only uploaded the houses to The Exchange. Here are the links to The Exchange pages (click on photos to enlarge):

Today I have a two story contemporary home for everyone. It’s on a 35X25 lot and cost $69,061. It has three bedrooms, 2 and a half baths, 2 car garage and a very nice second story balcony. Two pattern sets for everyone today and a house.

The house is another one that I adapted from actual floor plans. It’s on a 40X40 lot and costs $83,683. Believe me, when your sims make the sort of money that it would cost to afford this house, they will really appreciate it. Three bedrooms, 2 baths, laundry room, and two car garage. This house has a lot of space and a well groomed lawn. You can see all the additional picture that The Exchange provides HERE.
